The Yukigassen event takes place once a year in March, because snowball fights at minus 10 degrees are simply less fun than in more pleasant temperatures.

In 2026, it took place on March 14th and 16 teams participated and competed for the win. By the way, we – the Alpenhof team – finished in fourth place, just narrowly missing the podium.

In 2027, the event will take place on Saturday, March 6th. There may be a kind of optional training session the day before – however, the main event will definitely take place on Saturday.

I believe you all already know that Filzmoos is the scene of the action, we are located in the Salzburg region, are a picturesque mountain village and actually no more involved with snowball fights than any other village with a lot of snow. At least that's what I believed until a few years ago. The tournament itself takes place on a mountain at 1,600 meters above sea level, by the way, the highest place in Europe where Yukigassen is played. A cable car takes you up and down, no one has to walk if they don't want to. And this transport is included for all team members, so you don't need to worry about it, it's free.

Yukigassen is a real team game – and that's exactly what makes it so special! To put together an official team, you need at least 7 players on the field. In addition, a maximum of 3 substitutes so that changes can be made. And if there are more of you, fans are an important factor and they have fun too.

At Yukigassen, it's about more than just throwing snowballs – here, team spirit, tactics and lots of fun are the focus. But let's be honest, you wouldn't be reading this paragraph if the prizes didn't interest you at all. And I have good news, yes, there is a great prize money to be won for the best teams at Yukigassen Filzmoos. For 2027 we don't officially know yet, but in 2026 the amounts were as follows:

1st place: 3,000 €
2nd place: 2,000 €
3rd place: 1,000 €

So, go for it and win the thing, that would make for a nice evening for the whole team, at least from our experience.

And even better, if you stay with us and win, then we would definitely be willing to talk and throw in a little extra. After all, the winners of Yukigassen Filzmoos would be coming from the Alpenhof, well, almost at least, but you surely understand why we find this statement great :)
